Incident, pattern and trends of scabies on randomly selected secondary schools’ students in Anambra State, Nigeria

This study explored the determinants of Scabies infections in Secondary Schools across Anambra State to understand dynamics and identify measures that will help reduce disease burden. A survey infection was conducted on 5000 Students selected from fifty (50) randomly secondary schools State. Focus group discussions, direct clinical observations microscopic examinations were employed this study. Data categorized based features analysed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The result revealed itching be most prevalent both males (23.69%) females 10.93%) followed by sleeping disturbances (15.40%) (7.02%). findings also distribution scabies topographical locations lesions more prone abdomen, inter-digital, legs, elbows, wrists armpits than other parts body male female students examined. risk factors associated with research include sharing beds, pillows, clothes overcrowding which had a big effect infestation while others such as bathing habits, use soaps little effect. majority participant not aware real causes scabies. Skin-to-skin contact recorded mode transmission. On treatment, patronize traditional medicine dealers, few consults patent physicians pharmacists. Public health enlightenment campaigns school/community education programs may controlling these emerging epidemics Nigeria general.
